The Bauchi State Deputy Governor,. Mohammed Auwal Jatau who is the Chairman of the State Council on Nutrition on Thursday said the Council will work out modalities of developing a comprehensive, multi-sectoral nutrition strategy for the state.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the State Council on Nutrition held at the conference hall of his office, Auwal Jatau said the council will take a hard look at the nutrition situation in the state through identifying the key drivers and barriers, and put forward an actionable plan to addressing them.
He noted that, improving nutrition and the health outcomes for the people of the state is a key priority for the present administration of Governor Bala Mohammed and pointed out that, the governor has made a firm commitment to strengthening nutrition policies and programs as he has recognizes that good nutrition is fundamental to the overall development and wellbeing of the state and its people.
The Deputy Governor said the State Council on Nutrition is the highest policy making body on Nutrition and related activities in the state and coordinate all efforts towards ensuring sustainable food security in the State in line with priority of the governor.
Auwal Jatau used the medium to express gratitude to Development partners for their continuous support and assistance towards ensuring the reduction of malnutrition in the state and assured them that the state government is fully committed to providing the financial resources, and institutional support needed to implement nutrition strategies effectively.
Development partners that spoke at the meeting reiterated their support to the state government and in particular to the State Nutrition Council in order to achieve the desired objectives.
