MSF calls for sustained efforts in the fight against malnutrition in Bauchi.

A Humanitarian Health Organisation, Medicines Sans frontiers is launching an integrated community care management plus in Ganjuwa Local government area to train identified personal to diagnose and treat malnutrition at an early stage.

The acting Head of mission medical coordinator of MSF Dr. Thierry Boyom made this know during an interactive session with newsmen at Bagari suite, Bauchi.

Dr. Thierry said, Bauchi state alongside majority of northern Nigeria is facing malnutrition crisis.

According to him, the MSF team has seen the rate of malnutrition cases in medical facilities rises on average of forty percent between last year and this year.

He said about five thousand; seven hundred and eighty seven and seventeen thousand two hundred and twenty three children were admitted in the inpatient therapeutic feeding centre (ITFC) and ambulatory therapeutic feeding centre which supports malnourished children in the state.

Earlier, the project coordinator of the MSF Mrs. Rabi Adamou showed concerned over the increase in malnutrition admission cases seen in the state in the first half of the this year.

Mrs. Rabi stressed the need for collaboration with other concern organisations to fight malnutrition for a better future.

Also speaking, the nutrition adviser of the organisation Nathalie Avril said the ICCM/ICCM plus is aimed at expanding the on the existing community approach and include the treatment of malnutrition cases at community level which piloted in eight villages in Miya, starting from mid of July.

She called on government, NGO’S, CSOs and other wealthy individuals at all levels to join and in the fight against malnutrition for a better society.

Responding, the executive chairman, state primary health care development agency, Dr Rilwanu Muhammad acknowledged the intervention of Medicines Sans frontiers in the areas of malnutrition cases and responses to over outbreaks across the state.

Dr Rilwanu reiterated state government’s commitment to sustain partnership with MSF towards achieving the desired goals.
