UBEC/SUBEB conducts 2022/2023 Basic Education school sports Championship in Bauchi.

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has charged Sports organisers and administrators in the basic education sub sector to ensure transparency and fairness in the selection process of pupils that will participate in future sporting activities at the basic level.

The UBEC Assistant Desk Officer Incharge of Sports Unit, Malam Umar Dauda gave the charge during the Bauchi State 2022/2023 UBEC/SUBEB Basic Education School Sports Championship Finals held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium Bauchi.

Umar Dauda said sports competitions from local government, state, zonal and national levels are meant for the basic education learners, hence the need to ensure that students attending schools are not denied the opportunity to showcase their talents.

He urged schools, coaches and sports desk officers to ensure that sporting facilities provided are properly utilise by the pupils so as to improve their skills for better outcome at various sports championship.

He observed that, the one percent of UBEC/SUBEB annual matching grants is earmarked for sports development towards improving the abilities of basic schools pupils in the country.

On his part, the Director Education Support Services, Bauchi SUBEB Malam Aliyu Umar Wunti said the board has placed high premium in sporting activities, being one of the pillars of basic education by boosting the morale of pupils through the hosting of periodic inter-school competitions.

Aliyu Wunti who urged private schools to emulate the initiative for the children’s physical and mental development, listed some of the activities conducted include football, handball and other track as well as field events.

Announcing the results, the Sports Desk Officer Bauchi SUBEB Alhaji Babayo Tanimu said Bauchi Local Education Authority beat Ningi to clinch the Under-twelve football category, while Giade triumphed over Bauchi LEA to win the under-fifteen football category.

In the under- fifteen track events category, Bogoro LEA won the one hundred meters, two meters and four by one hundred meters relay, while Toro LEA clinched the four hundred meters relay.
