Over 1,000 Nomadic Children Benefit from Vacation Learning Program Across Bauchi State

Over 1,000 nomadic children across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Bauchi State have benefited from the recently concluded Nomadic Vacation Courses, aimed at enhancing access to quality education for nomadic communities.

The Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Agency for Nomadic Education (BASANE), Alhaji Ahmad Abdullahi Bello, disclosed this during a sendforth ceremony held at Government Girls Secondary School, Yana, in Shira Local Government Area.

Alhaji Bello emphasized the Bauchi State Government’s commitment to ensuring nomadic children enjoy equal educational opportunities alongside their peers in urban and rural settings. He noted that the vacation program focused primarily on English and Mathematics—core subjects that serve as foundational pillars for careers in science, engineering, and social sciences.

He commended the vital contributions of parents, traditional leaders, local authorities, and other stakeholders toward the success of the program, and praised the enthusiasm and performance of participating students, especially the girls.

Alhaji Bello called on parents to support their daughters’ education, encouraging them to allow the girls to complete their schooling and pursue careers that align with their interests and contribute to national development. He also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to identifying underserved communities across the state that are in need of nomadic schools.

He said the Nomadic Vacation Courses continue to stand as a beacon of hope for inclusive education in Bauchi State, with renewed efforts by stakeholders to ensure every child, regardless of background, has the chance to succeed.

Speaking on behalf of the Shira Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Babangida Abdullahi Ishaq, the Special Adviser on Students and Education, Umar Sarki Dango, expressed the council’s readiness to follow Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad’s lead in prioritizing education.

He noted that special attention will be given to nomadic education, especially for girls, to reduce the number of out-of-school children.

Also speaking, the Financial Consultant to the Executive Chairman of Giade Local Government, Babangida Umar Isawa, pledged the council’s commitment to investing significantly in girl-child education, reinforcing the state’s efforts toward achieving gender equality.

The Chairman of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore in Shira LGA, Alhaji Muhammadu Ore, lauded the state government for restoring hope among nomadic communities by providing equal opportunities in education and healthcare through BASANE, assured the association’s continued support for the program’s objectives.

Mrs. Salina Bala, Principal of Government Girls Secondary School Yana, noted that the vacation program also included training on menstrual hygiene, equipping girls with essential personal health knowledge.

She praised the students for their impressive grasp of subjects taught during the program and commended their display of talent and eagerness to learn.

One of the standout participants, Rukayya Sale from Tudun Wada Primary School, who received the award for best performance, attributed her success to dedication, focus, and commitment.

She encouraged other children to embrace education, describing knowledge as the most powerful tool for personal and community development.
