The Bauchi State Government says it is taking action against environmental problems by adopting a comprehensive climate change policy to address deforestation, erosion and pollution.
The Bauchi State Commissioner for Housing and Environment Alhaji Danlami Ahmed Kawule made this known during a BRC live phone in programme on the score card on tenure report of the Bauchi State Government, showcasing the landmark achievements and citizens engagement organized by the state ministry for information and communication and ministry for budget and Multilateral Coordination in collaboration with all media Houses in Bauchi.
He said Bauchi State is also making efforts to focus on a holistic approach, from policy-level strategies, including the climate change policy to on the ground initiatives such as tree planting and community engagement, to combat desertification, food insecurity, and waste management challenges.
Alhaji Danlami Ahmed Kawule said his ministry plays a key role in validating and approving the state’s climate change policy and addressing gully erosion and other environmental issues in collaboration with community members
He recalled that, the state government has flagged off the twenty twenty five annual tree planting campaign to response to deforestation, illegal logging, bush burning and overgrazing which contributes to land degradation and desert encroachment.
The Environment and Housing commissioner has selected 44 communities across the 20 local government areas of the state to benefit from converts and drainages to control erosion.
Alhaji Danlami Kawule revealed that the, Ministry has engaged the services of over 200 youths to nurture the planted trees to maturity from Awala roundabout to Bauchi Airport, GRA Bauchi and in Dass Local Government.
While pledging to engage policy makers, community and development partners to ensure a healthy environment, the commissioner announced plans by the ministry to beautify and upgrade the status of roundabouts in the state.
Alhaji Danlami Ahmed appreciated people of the State for imbibing the culture of environmental sanitation to ensure free flow of water.
