Nomadic residents of Gayau Sengo village in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State have raised concerns over the acute shortage of teachers in their community’s primary school, hindering access to quality education for their children.
The ward head of Gayau Sengo, Mallam Wakili Adamu, expressed the community’s frustration, noting that although parents are willing to send their children to the village’s primary school, the lack of teachers has discouraged many.
The ward head of Gayau Sengo said, Parents are eager for their children to attend school, but the absence of enough teachers is making them lose hope saying right now, only the headmaster remains after the Arabic teacher passed away, added that the headmaster lives far from the village, which severely affects teaching and learning.
Mallam Adamu also highlighted other challenges affecting the school, including the lack of basic amenities such as potable water and proper toilet facilities for both teachers and students. These issues, he said, further discourage attendance and the overall learning experience.
He appealed to the government to urgently intervene, emphasizing the community’s desire to raise an educated and healthy generation.
In response, Malam Bello Manu, the Desk Officer for Nomadic Schools in Gamawa Local Government, confirmed that the teacher shortage is a widespread problem. He revealed that out of 24 nomadic primary schools in the area, many are struggling with inadequate teaching staff despite a growing number of pupils attending classes daily.
The Nomadic Schools Desk officer said they have reported the situation to the Local Education Authority in Gamawa, but no meaningful action has been taken, appealing to the Bauchi State Government to step in and support nomadic education.
Both community leaders and education officials are calling for immediate government action to address the pressing issues facing nomadic schools in the region.
