Emir of Bununu Directs Traditional Rulers to Mobilise Muslims for Zakkat Payment

The Emir of Bununu Alhaji Jibrin Danlami Hassan, has directed all District, Village, and Ward Heads within the Emirate to mobilise Muslims to promptly fulfil their Zakkat obligations in accordance with Islamic teachings.

The Emir gave the directive while receiving members of the Bauchi State Sharia Commission, led by the Commissioner for Zakkat and Waqafi, Malam Yakubu Abubakar Gero, during a courtesy visit to his palace in Bununu.

Alhaji Jibrin Danlami Hassan described Zakkat as one of the fundamental pillars of Islam, stressing that it purifies wealth, alleviates hardship among the less privileged, and promotes social justice within society.

He called on wealthy Muslims to discharge the religious obligation with sincerity for the sake of Allah.

The traditional ruler assured the delegation of the Emirate’s full cooperation in promoting effective Zakkat administration, noting that traditional institutions have responsibility to encourage obedience to Allah through transparent collection and the equitable distribution of Zakkat to eligible beneficiaries.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Zakkat and Waqafi, Malam Yakubu Abubakar Gero, said the visit was part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with the Bununu Emirate in mobilising Muslims and improving Zakkat collection across communities in the state.

According to him, closer cooperation with traditional institutions would enhance public confidence, improve compliance with the religious obligation, and ensure that Zakkat is collected and distributed transparently in line with Islamic principles and the mandate of the commission.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, Sama’ila Wakili, pledged the council’s full support for the commission’s activities, describing Zakkat as an effective tool for poverty reduction, social welfare, and community development.

Wakili reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to sustained collaboration with the Emirate and the commission, expressing confidence that stronger partnerships would enhance Zakkat administration, reduce hardship, and promote Islamic values across the local government area.
