Bauchi State Goverment unveils strategies towards improving Agricultural supply

News Desk

Bauchi State Government Unveils Plans to Utilize Forest Reserves in order to tackle Food Scarcity and improved agricultural supply within and outside the state.
This development follows the visit by the Committee on Distribution of Farmland in Reserved Forests to Gamawa Local Government Area on assessment of land allocation to communities, an initiative launched by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
The committee chairman, Alhaji Saleh Umar Misau, stated that the plan will address issues of local farmers travelling to neighbouring states to engage in farming.
He explained that Governor Bala Mohammed has concern for his citizens’ welfare, which therefore prompted him to establish the committee and gives its mandate to assess vast Forest Reserves across twenty Local Government Areas with the aim of providing farmers with greater opportunities to improve agricultural supply.
Alhaji Sale says population is increasing, and need for farming has also increased, but land area has remained the same for centuries.
Regarding Forest Reserves, he explained that past leaders had foresight to preserve land for future use, so necessary actions could be taken when time came.
Alhaji Saleh Umar Misau stated that the committee is mandated to tour state, assess land, and profer advise on number of hectares to be allocated for the purpose.
He therefore urged members of the public to always be law abiding and avoid encroaching any land not officially allocated to them, warning that anyone found guilty would face legal action.
