The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools of Nigeria (ASUSS), Bauchi State Chapter, has called on the state government to provide a conducive environment, sound policies, better remuneration, and an improved curriculum to enhance teaching and learning in schools across the state.

The Chairman of the union, Comrade Bala Samba, made the call during the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration held at the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Secretariat in Bauchi.

Comrade Samba also appealed to parents to support the educational needs of their children and work closely with teachers in addressing areas where pupils face academic challenges.

He further urged the Bauchi State Government to implement the Federal Government’s policy extending teachers’ years of service and retirement age to 40 and 65 years respectively.

While commending the present administration in the state for promoting education officers to Grade Level 16, a step he said previous administrations failed to take,

Comrade Samba described the gesture as a morale booster for teachers.

According to him, the World Teachers’ Day provides an opportunity for educators to reflect on their challenges and reaffirm their commitment to shaping the younger generation.

He noted that, the day, set aside by the international community under UNESCO, celebrates the invaluable contributions of teachers to human development and societal progress.

The theme for this year’s celebration was “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession.”
