Toro Local Government marks Bauchi @50 with tree planting and facility inspections

Toro Local Government Area has organized a special tree planting campaign alongside visits to a primary health care facility and a major market as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Bauchi State.

Leading the exercise, the Chairman of Toro Local Government, Pharmacist Ibrahim Abubakar Dembo, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting the state fifty years of existence, describing the golden jubilee as a moment for reflection, appreciation, and renewed commitment.

Pharmacist Abubakar Dembo said the anniversary provides an opportunity to honour the sacrifices of the founding fathers whose dedication laid the foundation for the growth and development of Bauchi State.

He explained that, tree planting was deliberately chosen as a key activity to combat desert encroachment, promote environmental sustainability, and contribute to economic development.

The chairman directed officials and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Magama Motor Park to nurture and protect the trees planted within the park.

During visits to Magama Market and the Primary Health Care Centre, the chairman commended the management and staff for their dedication to service delivery and identified the need for extension and renovation of some wards at the health facility.

Earlier, the Director Agriculture of the local government, Alhaji Salisu Tukur, and the Director of Health, Alhaji Auwal Ibrahim, applauded the chairman for the initiative, noting that, the activities would raise awareness about the history of Bauchi State and further promote development at the grassroots.

In his remarks, the State Trustee of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Alhaji Hamisu Yayo Magama, thanked the chairman for selecting Magama Motor Park for the tree planting campaign, saying the initiative would provide much-needed shade and improve the environment.
