The Nigeria Institute of Civil Engineers conducts capacity building rally over infrastructure collapse

The Nigerian Institute of Civil Engineers has conducted a sensitization rally over building and infrastructure collapse across the country.

Speaking during the exercise in Bauchi, the National Executive Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers representing Northeast, Engr. Usman Abdu Abubakar, expressed concern over not engaging members of the institute and qualified Civil Engineers in building structure which according to him lead to the issues of building collapse in Nigeria.

He attributed the challenges facing the infrastructural sector to lack of professionalism and advised the public to always consider qualified Engineers in their building activities.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Bauchi state Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Civil Engineers, Engr. Ibrahim Aliyu Adamu, said the nationwide sensitization campaign was organized by the National body of the Institution to express their grievances over the recurrence building and infrastructure failures in Nigeria.

He expressed dismay with the impersonation of some uncertified practitioners in the building profession and assured the institute commitment to ensure sanity into the system.

The State Chairman, therefore, applauded Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad for carrying members of the institute along in his infrastructural projects in the state.

In their separate remarks, the Director Engineering Services Bauchi State Ministry of Works and Transports, Engr. Jibrin Maigari Umar and the Head of Department Civil Engineering, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, enjoined the public to consider Civil Engineers in their building structures to avoid losses and damages.
