
Toro Local Government branch of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) has elected new executive officials to steer the affairs of the union for the next tenure.
The election, held at the Toro Local Government Secretariat, was described as free, fair, and peaceful.
At the end of the exercise, Abdulhamid A. Aliyu Kufai emerged as the new Chairman of the branch after polling 107 votes to defeat his opponents, Kabiru Doro and Samaila Bako, who scored 45 and 27 votes respectively.
In other contested positions, Bala Abubakar Gumau was elected Treasurer with 96 votes, defeating Adamu Aliyu Rishi who garnered 84 votes.
Bello Adamu Rinji also emerged as Trustee with 96 votes against Musa Manomi, who secured 84 votes.
For the position of Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ahmed Dan Abdullahi won with 105 votes, defeating Ibrahim Dan Sokoto who got 24 votes.
Meanwhile, the positions of Secretary, Deputy Chairman, and Auditor were filled unopposed by Mohammed Gidado, Ibrahim Musa Tama, and Shaaban Mohammed Lame respectively.
While declaring the results, Chairman of the Electoral Committee and State Deputy Chairman of NUP, Alhaji Abdullahi D. Umar, commended members of the Toro branch for demonstrating maturity and discipline before, during, and after the election.
He urged them to remain united and cooperate with the newly elected officials for the progress of the union.
Umar advised the new executives to be honest, dedicated, and receptive to constructive criticism, adding that inclusive leadership was key to advancing the welfare of pensioners in the area.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Abdulhamid A. Aliyu, expressed gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in him and his team.
He promised to carry everyone along and work diligently for the growth of the union.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of certificates of return to all elected officials.
