President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renaming of the Federal University of Sciences, Azare, in honor of the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, a distinguished Islamic scholar. This decision was made in recognition of his invaluable contributions to Islamic scholarship and his role as a moral guide to society. The renaming of the university will serve as a lasting tribute to his legacy.
The announcement was made by President Tinubu during a condolence visit to Bauchi State, where he expressed his respects to the family of the late Sheikh. The President also prayed for the eternal rest of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, emphasizing the importance of preserving his memory and teachings for future generations.
Upon arriving at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport in Bauchi, President Tinubu was warmly received by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang. Several key government officials, including ministers and dignitaries, were also present to welcome the President to the state.
The list of dignitaries included the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and the Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate. Other prominent personalities in the presidential entourage included the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajuddeen Abbas, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, and the President’s son, Seyi Bola Tinubu.
Governor Bala Mohammed expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for both his condolence visit and the decision to rename the university in honor of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi. He described the gesture as a significant honor not just for Bauchi State, but for Nigeria as a whole. Governor Mohammed also praised the President for recognizing the Sheikh’s immense impact on the nation.
On behalf of the Bauchi family, Dr. Bashir Dahiru Bauchi thanked President Tinubu for his thoughtful visit and for sending his representatives to attend the funeral prayers for his father. Dr. Bashir also expressed his appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed for the unwavering support extended to the family, as well as to Dr. Bala Wunti for his contributions to the development of the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Islamic Center.
