
The Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, has stressed the need to strengthen technical and vocational education as a critical requirement for sustainable economic transformation.
Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, was speaking while delivering a goodwill message at the 1st International Conference held at the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic organised by the ATAP chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics.
The Speaker commended ASUP and the management of the institution for organising what he described as a timely and relevant conference that directly addresses the future of the nation’s economy and educational system.
He noted that, the theme of the conference aptly reflects the central role of education in economic growth, adding that, no economy can achieve sustainable development without a skilled, innovative and productive workforce.
He explained that, polytechnic education plays a vital role in bridging the gap between theory and practice by equipping young people with technical and entrepreneurial skills that promote self-reliance, job creation and industrial development.
According to him, strengthening technical and vocational education in Bauchi State and Nigeria at large is not optional but a necessity for sustainable transformation.
Dr. kar Suleiman also commended the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, for what he Abubadescribed as his visionary leadership and commitment to the development of the state.
He noted that, under the governor’s stewardship, Bauchi State has recorded significant progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare and social welfare.
The Speaker reaffirmed the commitment of the Bauchi State House of Assembly to enacting policies, passing legislation and providing oversight that will enhance quality education, staff development, improved infrastructure and adequate funding for educational institutions.
Papers were presented by the Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Professor Musa Babayo, and the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Adamu Ahmad.
