Over fifty Women and Girls with disabilities receives training on GBV in Tafawa Balewa local Government

Over fifty Women and Girls with intellectual disabilities in Tafawa Balewa local government area have been trained on how to apply protective measures against Gender Based Violence.

The training held at WATEL Hotel Tafawa Balewa, was organised by Down Syndrome Foundation Nigeria and Gundi Community Support Foundation with the theme ” Mpower Her” aim at ending Gender Based Violence against women and girls with Intellectual disabilities.

The team leader of Down Syndrome Nigeria Barrister Blessing Ejoma and representative of Gundi Community Princess Gundi Markus said the organisations embark on advocacy, Inclusion and empowerment as well as working toward a society where person with Intellectual disabilities live with dignity and access opportunities and reach their full potential.

They acknowledged the support of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the state first Lady Hajiya Lami Bala Mohammed and the executive chairman Tafawa Balewa local government for their immense contributions towards the successful implementation of the programme and urged the participants to sensitised the public on the importance of the programme to improve their wellbeing.

In their separate remarks, the chairman Bauchi State fertilizer company limited Barrister Kefas Magaji, Musa Tanko and Mr Solomon Bukata Solomon commended the organisers of the programme and assured to continue supporting them their activities in the area.

In his response, the Executive Chairman of Tafawa Balewa local government Alhaji Sama’ila Wakili Lere expressed his Council’s readiness to work with relevant organisations willing to improve the living standard of the entire people with disability, emphasising the need to focus on sensitising the general public to create a safer and more inclusive society for people with disability.
