Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has challenged relevant stakeholders on child development to rise up and take a decisive action to stem the unacceptable cases of violence and intimidation against children.
Speaking at the
occasion of the 2025 National Children’s Day celebration held at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium Bauchi, the Governor said the call became imperative as his administration is committed to protecting the rights and privileges of all children in the state.
He noted that, the choice of this year’s theme, “Stand up, speak up, building a bullying-free generation,” could not have l come at a better time than now, as it underscores the commitment of his administration towards creating awareness on the negative impact of bullying on individuals and communities,l and as well educate children and parents to recognize and prevent bullying behavior.
Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, Governor Bala Mohammed said at the moment, the state government is also working towards addressing cyberbullying and promoting responsible online behavior among youth, as well as encouraging digital accountability.
The Governor therefore promised to support victims and bystanders to speak up against bullying and to provide tools and strategies for children to assert themselves safely and effectively.
He assured that the state government will continue to promote and protect the Right of every citizen, including children, saying, it is the primary responsibility of the government as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Child Rights Act, 2003.
Governor Bala Mohammed further directed the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development to liaise with other agencies to work out appropriate programme, including actions and measures that would help in fighting the scourge of Cyber Crime, Child Abuse, Child abduction, Child Labour and Child Trafficking, among others.
In a welcome address, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Zainab Baban Takko expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for his administration’s outstanding support towards the welfare and well-being of the citizens of the state particularly the women and children.
