North-East Public Opinion stakeholders Meeting declare desire to canvass for more women representation in the legislature

Representatives of the Network for Inclusion of Women in Governance NILOW have expressed their desire to fight for more representation for women in the legislature.
They gave the assurance In continuation of the public hearing of the Federal Assembly taking place at the North East Zone – Gombe Centre, with people from the states of Gombe, Bauchi and Taraba states participanting to present their needs and suggestions regarding the changes in the constitution and changes in the laws and representatives of NILOWV Group..
Speech on behalf of the organization, Hajiya Zainab Muhammed, who is the Chairperson of NILOWV Bauchi State Chapter, stated that:the group seeks for more representation of women in governance which has been going on for a long time, and expressed confidence that the struggle is about to be confirmed, hoping that the Nigerian constitution will add more information and special provisions to achieve the desired objective.
She further emphasized that increasing the number of women in the parliament will improve the law and policies that encourage the development of family life, children and society as a whole.
The event was attended by organizations and community groups from different parts of the three states, including, Campaigners for the creation of Katagum state from Bauchi state, Representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs) Representatives of religions, community leaders, youth and stakeholders.
The public opinion meeting is an important step to include the interests of the people in the process of changing the constitution that is being prepared by the Federal Assembly. And the people had the opportunity to express their needs clearly to the representatives of the council and the committees in charge of the system.
