Ningi Communities urged to embrace tree planting for environmental sustainability

Communities across Ningi Local Government Area have been reminded of the importance of planting trees in their homes and farmlands as part of efforts to combat environmental degradation.

The Chairman of Ningi Local Government Council, Alhaji Nasiru Zakari Dankasuwa, made the call during the 2025 World Tree Day Campaign organized by the Bauchi office of Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), in collaboration with the Ningi Local Government Council.

Represented by the Leader of the Council, Alhaji Mas’ud Hassan, the Chairman noted that Nigeria, as a member of the global green movement, must remain committed to sustainable environmental practices.

He emphasized the need for communities to intensify tree planting to curb desert encroachment and soil erosion.

Alhaji Nasiru *Zakari commended ACReSAL for its continuous support in addressing deforestation in Ningi, especially through* the construction of the cattle range reserve at Arinja and the establishment of a pilot farmland for assorted household crops at the College of Administration and Social Studies, Ningi.

He added that the council would further strengthen its tree-planting campaign to reduce deforestation in the area.

In his remarks, the Acting District Head of Ningi, Alhaji Ibrahim Baraya Aliyu, said that cultivating a culture of tree planting among community members would significantly help reduce poverty, particularly through the cultivation of assorted household crops during dry-season farming.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the ACReSAL Technical Committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu Halad Sama, appreciated the Bauchi State Government, Ningi Local Government, and ACReSAL for their collective efforts to boost agricultural development in the state.

He noted that planting economic trees such as orange, guava, and mango would enhance income generation among community members.
