Bauchi State Joint Action Committee of Academic and Non-Academic Staff Unions of tertiary institutions has commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for approving and implementing 90% of the new salary structures of COMPCASS and CONTEDISS for workers in the state.
The Joint Action Committee Chairman, Comrade Abubakar Ahmed, made the commendation at a press conference held at Aliko Dangote College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Bauchi.
He noted that, the approval is a clear demonstration of Governor Bala’s sensitivity to the needs of the workforce, hence the need to applaud his bold and historic decision.
The Committee observed that some staff received their June salaries with unexplained shortfalls ranging from two thousand naira to forty thousand naira, describing it as not intentional, possibly due to computation or transmission errors.
The JAC Chairman, however, called on the relevant authorities to investigate and address the anomalies to enable the affected staff receive their full entitlements.
He said the Committee also reviewed the contributory pension scheme thoroughly and pledged support to any policy that ensures retirement security, urging the government to re-examine the scheme in the best interest of workers.
Comrade Abubakar also acknowledged the contributions of both the former and current Heads of Civil Service, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu and Barrister Muhammad Sani Umar in achieving a successful resolution of the matter.
He further appreciated the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the Chairman and Members of the House Committee on Education, the Senior Special Assistants on Labour and Civil Service Matters, organized labour in the state, the Joint Negotiation Council, and others for their support and encouragement in making the process a successful one.
The Chairman reassured the government and the public that the Joint Action Committee remains committed to constructive dialogue, industrial peace, and the progress of state-owned tertiary institutions.
