International Federation of Women Lawyers comemorates Women’s Day in Bauchi

The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Bauchi State Branch has commemorated the International Women’s Day with an outreach programme aimed at supporting and empowering women in the state.

The event, held under the theme “Give to Gain – Invest in Women to Gain for the Society,” featured a visit to the Specialist Hospital Bauchi, where members of the association engaged women receiving care at the facility.

During the outreach, the delegation interacted with the women to motivate and encourage them while offering legal advice on issues affecting their rights and welfare. The association further supported the women with sanitary pads as part of efforts to promote dignity, health, and empowerment among women.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairperson of FIDA Bauchi State Branch, Barr. Hauwa Abubakar, who also serves as the Clerk of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, emphasized the importance of investing in women as a pathway to building a stronger and more equitable society.

Barrister Abubakar explained that empowering women through education, legal awareness, and social support would significantly contribute to sustainable development in communities.

She noted that the outreach formed part of the organization’s broader commitment to promoting the rights and welfare of women and children through legal advocacy, community sensitization, and support services.

According to her, FIDA plays a crucial role in Bauchi State by providing free legal services to vulnerable women and children, advocating for policies that protect their rights, and educating communities on issues such as gender equality, child protection, and the prevention of gender-based violence.

The outreach highlighted the significance of FIDA’s work in Bauchi State, as the organization remains a vital platform for legal advocacy, social intervention, and the protection of the rights and dignity of women and children, through initiatives such as community engagement, legal assistance, and public awareness campaigns, the association continues to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of justice and social development in the state.
