Governor Bala tasks ANAN on sustaining professional excellence and fiscal Transparency.

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has charged the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) to remain steadfast in its pursuit of professional excellence and continue bridging the gap between corporate reporting and public value in financial management.

The Governor, who gave the charge at the 5th Session of the 2025 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) Programme of ANAN, held at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre, Bauchi, commended the Association for its continued collaboration with sub-national governments, which he said has enriched governance practices and deepened fiscal transparency across the federation.

Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Mohammed Auwal Jatau, described the theme of the session “Corporate Value Creation and Reporting” as timely and intellectually stimulating, stressing that it reflects the evolving role of accountants as strategic partners in governance, sustainability, and development, rather than mere custodians of financial records.

He noted that hosting the 2025 MCPD in Bauchi reflects the state’s growing reputation as a hub of learning, peace, and institutional development.

The Governor also observed that ANAN has over time interlinked the concepts of corporate value creation and public value management, thereby emphasizing that accountability and reporting should go beyond financial outcomes to include societal impact, institutional integrity, and developmental relevance.

Governor Bala Mohammed further noted that the International Reporting Framework defines value creation as the process through which organizations use resources and relationships — their various “capitals” — to generate value for themselves and stakeholders over time.

He stressed that public sector institutions must measure and report their impact on citizens’ welfare, adding that the principles of Public Value Management compel governments to identify what is valuable to citizens, engage them in decision-making, and allocate resources transparently to deliver meaningful and sustainable outcomes.

Governor Bala highlighted that Bauchi State has consistently been rated high in budget transparency, performance reporting, and the timely publication of audited financial statements.

He also cited the institutionalization of Citizens’ Budgets and Accountability Reports as tools for public enlightenment and social accountability.

He appreciated the contributions of ANAN members serving in the public service for their professionalism and integrity, which he said have continued to strengthen governance institutions.

The Governor urged participants to engage rigorously in the session and apply the insights gained to improve governance quality across both corporate and public sectors.

In her remarks, the President and Chairman of Council of ANAN, Mrs. Zuwairat Talatu Kishimi, expressed confidence that the 2025 MCPD would further equip members to build stronger systems and reinforce accountability as a driver of Nigeria’s economic growth.

Earlier, the Bauchi State Accountant General and ANAN State Branch Chairman, Sirajo Jaja, thanked Governor Bala Mohammed for recognizing the vital role of ANAN professionals in governance and pledged the Association’s continued support for the economic development of the state.
