Bauchi Youth Parliament rejects terrorism financing allegation against Governor Bala Mohammed

Bauchi State Youth Parliament has condemned what it described as an unfounded and reckless allegation linking Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to the financing of terrorism, dismissing the claim as false and politically motivated.

In a statement, the Speaker of the Parliament, Comrade Mohammad Idris Musa, said the allegation lacks factual, legal basis and represents a dangerous misuse of national security narratives to intimidate political opposition.

He stated that, the youth body, which represents young people drawn from the state’s emirates, 20 local government areas, constituencies and diverse communities, found the allegation disturbing and capable of undermining democratic stability.

According to the statement, Bauchi State has enjoyed relative peace and social stability under Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration through deliberate investments in security coordination, community engagement and collaboration with security agencies, traditional institutions and other stakeholders.

The Youth Parliament warned that linking a sitting governor, who constitutionally bears responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of citizens, to terrorism financing could endanger public peace, erode confidence in governance and weaken ongoing security efforts in the state.

It further noted that, the allegation could have negative economic consequences, especially as Bauchi State is positioning itself as one of the leading states in ease of doing business, attracting investments in agriculture, solid minerals, commerce and small-scale enterprises.

The Youth Parliament also condemned what it described as attempts to weaponize federal institutions for political witch-hunting, stressing that, democracy must be guided by fairness, due process and respect for political plurality.

It emphasized that governance should be assessed based on development outcomes, service delivery and the impact of policies on citizens, rather than the harassment of political opponents.

Reaffirming its support for Governor Bala Mohammed, the youth body described him as a legitimate democratic leader and an advocate of equity, justice and democratic values.

The Parliament called on relevant authorities, the media, civil society organisations, religious leaders and the people of Bauchi State to reject misinformation, uphold due process and protect the integrity of democratic governance in Nigeria.
