
Bauchi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development has announced plans to provide goats to 200 women across the state as part of its 2026 empowerment initiative aimed at promoting self-reliance among women.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Sale Mamman, disclosed this to journalists shortly after defending the ministry’s 2026 budget proposal before the State House of Assembly.
He explained that, the beneficiaries will be selected from all 20 local government areas of the state, in a model similar to the empowerment structure recently adopted by the Jigawa State Government.
Alhaji Sale Mamman said the goat-distribution programme is one of several initiatives designed to enhance women’s economic independence and strengthen household livelihoods.
He also revealed that, the ministry has concluded plans to revive all Women Education Centres across the state to expand access to skills acquisition and vocational training for women and girls.
According to him, restoring these centres, will enable more women to acquire income-generating skills and improve their socio-economic well-being.
The Permanent Secretary further reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to sustaining ongoing efforts in tackling gender-based violence, strengthening child development programmes and promoting the welfare of women across the state.
He assured that the ministry will continue to introduce strategic interventions that align with the state government’s commitment to gender empowerment and social development.
Also speaking, the Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Women affairs and child development, Barrister Habibu Umar pledged full legislative support for programmes under the ministry, aimed at improving the welfare and development of women and children across the state.
He commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for prioritising issues affecting women and children, noting that the administration has demonstrated strong commitment through various policies and budgetary provisions.
Barrister Habibu Umar said the Assembly will continue to collaborate with the executive arm to advance gender development, protect vulnerable groups and promote a more inclusive society.
He reiterated the committee’s readiness to ensure smooth passage of programmes designed to uplift women, safeguard children and strengthen family structures in the state.
