Bauchi State Launches Zero-Fee Right of Way Policy to Boost Digital Transformation

The Bauchi State Government has launched a Zero-Fee Right of Way (RoW) policy aimed at enhancing digital transformation and attracting investment in the state’s telecommunications sector.

The policy, approved by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, prohibitive costs associated with the installation and maintenance of network facilities aimed at making Bauchi State a premier destination for telecommunications investment.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement meeting, held at International Conference hall Bauchi, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Aminu Hammayo, said the policy is a direct tool for socio-economic transformation, enabling the seamless rollout of 4G and 5G networks, and attracting massive investment, creating high-value jobs for youth, and driving excellence in e-education and digital health.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the National Communications Commission (NCC), National Information Technology Development Agency NITDA, Galaxy Backbone Ltd, and major telecom operators, including MTN, Glo, and Airtel.

The MD/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, commended Bauchi State for the initiative, saying it would enhance broadband access, lower the cost of doing business, and attract private sector investment.

The Director General of the Bureau for ICT and Digital Economy, Mallam Hayatudeen Babamaji, said the policy intent to position Bauchi State at the forefront of Nigeria’s digital transformation.

The stakeholders called for policy clarity, institutional coordination, and transparency in the implementation process to ensure the success of the policy in Bauchi state.
