Bauchi State Government approves implementation of electronic judicial system for High Courts

Bauchi State Government has approved the introduction of an electronic judicial system for the State High Court as part of efforts to enhance efficiency and transparency in the administration of justice.
The Chief Registrar of the High Court, Barrister Fatima Abubakar, disclosed this while briefing parliamentary correspondents shortly after defending the court’s 2026 budget proposal before the Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Justice and Judiciary.
She explained that, the move is aimed at modernizing court operations, improving case management, and reducing delays in the justice delivery process.
Barrister Fatima Abubakar added that the required processes have already been forwarded to the State Bureau for Information and Communication Technology for formalization and final approval.
According to her, once completed, the e-judiciary system will support electronic filing, digital documentation, and other automated procedures that will ease the work of judges, lawyers, and court users.
She assured that the judiciary is committed to embracing reforms that will strengthen justice delivery in the state.
The Chief Registrar also announced state government’s plans to achieve full high Court independence in the area of overhead expenditure as part of its 2026 fiscal strategy.
She said the initiative is aimed at strengthening financial autonomy for critical government institutions, including the judiciary, to enhance efficiency and accountability in service delivery.
Barrister Fatima Abubakar noted that, once implemented, the policy would reduce bureaucratic delays and ensure prompt access to operational funds needed for effective administration of justice.
Responding, the Chairman, State assembly Committee on Justice and judiciary, Bala Abdu Rishi, commended the state government for its commitment to improving the judicial sector and expressed optimism that the new budgetary approach would contribute significantly to a more responsive and independent judiciary in the state.
Similarly, Bauchi State Ministry of Justice has disclosed plans to integrate more technology into its operations as part of efforts to enhance the effective dispensation of justice across the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry revealed this while briefing newsmen shortly after defending the ministry’s 2026 budget proposal before the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
He explained that leveraging technology would boost efficiency, strengthen case management, and improve overall service delivery within the justice sector.
According to him, the ministry also intends to employ additional staff in 2026 to address manpower gaps affecting its operations.
The Permanent Secretary further announced that provisions have been made for the construction of a new ministry office in Azare, aimed at expanding access to justice services for residents of the northern zone of the state.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing reforms that will strengthen the justice system and support the administration’s broader development agenda.
