By Rabi’u Ishaq Muhammad:
Bauchi State Government has proposed the construction of cottage and general hospitals across some of the newly established emirate councils as part of its 2026 budget plan.
Bauchi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Muhammad Dambam, disclosed this while briefing journalists shortly after defending the ministry’s 2026 budget proposal at the temporary State Assembly complex, Bauchi.
Dr. Sani Dambam said the initiative aims to expand healthcare access and bring medical services closer to residents, particularly in underserved communities created under the new emirate structure.
He noted that, the planned health facilities would help reduce the pressure on existing hospitals and strengthen the state’s overall healthcare delivery system.
The commissioner assured that the Ministry of Health is committed to ensuring effective implementation once the budget receives legislative approval.
Meanwhile, Bauchi State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Malaria has announced plans to introduce new strategic measures to sustain its operations following the suspension of support from international donors.
Chairman of the Agency disclosed this while speaking with newsmen shortly after defending the agency’s 2026 budget proposal before the Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Health at the Assembly complex.
He explained that the withdrawal of donor funding has created significant operational gaps, making it necessary for the Agency to devise alternative mechanisms to ensure continuity of critical health services across the state.
The Chairman noted that the Agency is developing a sustainability framework that will strengthen local funding sources, enhance collaboration with relevant ministries, and improve internal efficiency to keep essential HIV, TB, leprosy and malaria interventions running.
He expressed confidence that with the renewed commitment of the state government and strengthened partnerships, the Agency will continue to deliver quality healthcare services to vulnerable populations despite funding challenges.
