Bauchi State celebrates 2026 World Orphans Day with Call for Stronger Support to the less privileged children

The Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of orphans and vulnerable children as it commemorated the 2026 World Orphans Day

The event, themed *“Artificial Intelligence for Orphans”*, was organized by the Bauchi State Orphans and Vulnerable Children Agency, BASOVCA, in partnership with the Worldwide Organization for Charity, WOC.

The theme focuses on leveraging AI, coding, and technology to equip orphans and underprivileged children with skills for the future.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Dr. Lydia Tsamani, described the celebration as a milestone and the first of its kind since she assumed office.

The Commissioner represented by the Director finance and account in the ministry, Abba Umar said the gathering provided an opportunity to assess progress made and chart a way forward for the agency’s social services to Orphans and Vulnerable Children in the state

Dr Tsamani commended Governor Bala Mohammed and the state civil service for their hospitality and for contributing to the welfare of orphans and vulnerable children.

She urged board members, stakeholders, and staff of BASOVCA to redouble their efforts, noting that the task ahead remains significant.

In her welcome address, the Executive Chairperson of BASOVCA, Hajiya Yalwa Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, said the celebration reflected the agency’s responsibility toward the social wellbeing of orphans and vulnerable children across the state.

She thanked Governor Mohammed and his wife, Dr. Aisha Bala Abdulkadir, for providing an enabling environment for the agency to carry out its mandate.

Hajiya Yalwa also appreciated civil servants and political office holders for donating 1% and 2% of their monthly salaries to support the agency’s activities, adding that the contributions have strengthened its operations.

The officials pledged continued dedication to addressing the welfare of orphans and caregivers in line with the governor’s agenda for social inclusion and equity in the state.

Representing the orphans, Miss Favour Bala Kaura expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed, his wife Dr. Aisha Bala Abdulkadir, Hajiya Yalwa Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Commissioner Lydia Tsamani, and BASOVCA’s In-charge Hajiya Balkisu Idris Guda for their care and support.
