Bauchi Livestock Traders Decry Poor Patronage Ahead of Eid al-Adha

By Abdurrahman Muhammad Garba:

Ram and cattle sellers in Bauchi State have expressed concern over the low turnout of buyers at animal markets despite the approaching Eid al-Adha celebration.

Speaking with journalists, the Sarkin Turken Gwallaga, Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim Kobi, said the market is witnessing a sharp decline in patronage due to economic hardship and lack of purchasing power among residents.

He explained that the situation is worse compared to previous years, noting that the high cost of animals and financial challenges facing many families have affected sales ahead of the Sallah festivities.

Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim Kobi appealed to stakeholders and wealthy individuals to support the less privileged by purchasing and distributing animals to ease the burden of the celebration.

Also speaking, a ram seller, Bappa Abdu Mai Gwanjo, said traders have reduced prices to make animals more affordable for customers amid the current economic situation.

According to him, the prices of rams range from one hundred thousand naira to five hundred thousand naira, while cattle are sold between five hundred thousand naira and seven million naira.
