Bauchi Govt Moves to Support Education in Dalam Community

By Uzairu Dauda Bunga:

Residents of Dalam village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State have expressed optimism over the state government’s commitment to improving educational opportunities for their children.

The assurance came during an inspection visit to the community school by the Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Agency for Nomadic Education, Alhaji Ahmad Abdullahi Bello.

Speaking during the visit, Bello said the agency would forward the community’s complaints regarding inadequate classrooms, lack of water supply, and poor toilet facilities to the state government for urgent intervention.

He also disclosed that Dalam village would be included among the centres for non-formal education under the agency to enhance access to learning opportunities.

According to him, education remains a vital tool for sustainable development, improved farming practices, and better living standards.

Alhaji Abdullahi Bello further urged residents to establish an education committee to strengthen supervision, ensure effective school management, and promote quality education in the community.

In his remarks, the Bauchi State Chairman of Da’awa, Alhaji Hassan Sulaiman, said the community urgently needs additional classroom blocks considering the strong interest shown by residents in pursuing education.

Also speaking, the Permanent Commissioner I of the Shariah Commission, Malam Yakubu Abubakar Gero, commended the community for its commitment to education and encouraged residents to sustain their support for the sector’s development.

He assured the people of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad’s commitment to addressing challenges affecting education and improving the future of children across the state.

Gero also praised the foresight and sacrifices of the Dalam community in supporting formal education for their children.

In a vote of thanks, the Sarkin Dalam, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Idris, recalled that the community had sought government support for formal education facilities for decades without success.

He explained that with encouragement from the Da’awa Community in Bauchi State, residents mobilised resources to construct two classrooms, one for children and another for non-formal education.

According to him, the Da’awa Community later assisted in roofing the classrooms, although the structures still lack doors, windows, water and toilet facilities.

The traditional ruler appealed to the government to provide modern school infrastructure and other essential facilities to help retain children in school and improve learning conditions in the community.
