BAUCHI ASSEMBLY CALLS FOR THE REGULATION OF ACTIVITIES OF HOUSE AGENTS

Bauchi State House of Assembly has called on the state government to regulate the activities of house agents to curb sharp practices and protect the interests of residents.

This followed a motion moved by member Representing Lere/Bula Constituency Abdurrashid Adamu Mu’azu during plenary.

To this end, the lawmaker seeks government intervention in establishing a regulatory framework for real estate activities in the state.

While commending the motion as timely, Speaker, Abubakar Suleiman said the move would help sanitize the housing sector.

Contributing to the debate, member Representing Chinade/Madara Dr. Nasiru Ahmed Ala emphasized that after food, shelter remains the most essential human need, stressing the importance of regulating the process of acquiring accommodation.

He called for active involvement of the state Ministry of Housing to curb the excesses of unregulated house agents.

While Builder Sa’idu Suleiman of Darazo constituency, described the motion as vital, noting that many individuals invest heavily in building homes and deserve protection from fraudulent practices.

Similarly, Bala Abdu Rishi of Lame constituency, raised concerns over tactics used by some agents to sell a single property to multiple buyers, warning against allowing agencies to arbitrarily determine house prices.

After deliberations, the House unanimously adopted the motion and resolved to communicate its prayers to the state Executive Arm of Government.

In another development, the House has adopted a motion moved by Dayyabu Ladan Mohammed of Ganjuwa East constituency, calling for the expansion of electricity supply in Soro Town, Ganjuwa Local Government Area, to cover Tashan Gabi, Unguwar Kakkara, and Sabon Kaura communities.

Similarly, the Assembly considered a motion by Ahmed Mohammed Lele of Udubo Constituency, appealing the state government to construct roads linking Udubo to Gaɗiya in Gamawa LGA and Udubo to Kafin Larabawa in Zaki LGA.

Seconding the motion, member Representing Kirfi Constituency Barrister Habibu Umar, highlighted the socio-economic importance of the roads for access to healthcare, education, and trade.

In the same vein, Bello Mohammed Maiwa of Zaki constituency has presented a motion calling for the construction of a 25-kilometre road from Kwanar Gurka through Maiwa, Kukawa, Kizir, Zango, Ariri, terminating at Kore Mabbi in Katagum.

All the motions were adopted after deliberation, with the House resolving to notify the Executive Arm of Government accordingly.
