Village Head of Bogoro encourages his people to plant trees for environmental sustainability.

The Village Head of Bogoro, Mr. Nuhu Tafida, has called on residents of the community to support the ongoing tree-planting campaign under the ACReSAL Project.

He made the appeal during the commemoration of World Tree Day held at his residence.

Mr. Nuhu Tafida urged community members to cooperate with the ACReSAL team and the Bogoro Local Government Technical Committee to ensure the successful execution of the project in the area.

He also appealed for proper care and maintenance of the newly planted trees, noting that, achieving the project’s objectives would attract additional support and interventions from ACReSAL.

The village head underscored the vital role of trees in combating environmental challenges such as soil erosion, flooding, desertification, global warming, and the broader impacts of climate change.

In his remarks, Chairman of Bogoro Local Government, Yakubu Lawi Sumi, reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to support government agricultural policies and programmes.

He commended ACReSAL and the Savannah Institute for Sustainable Development for donating tractors and providing an integrated water scheme in Bogoro.

Yakubu Lawi also appreciated the Bauchi State Government for its interventions in the agricultural sector.

In his welcome address, the Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Yusuf Zakka represented by his deputy, Dakyau Dauda assured the community of continuous supervision and implementation of ACReSAL projects in Bogoro.

Also speaking, the SISDev Desk Officer for Bogoro, Khadijah Muhammad Bello, stressed the importance of tree planting, noting that it reduces wind disasters and contributes to environmental protection.

She explained that, this year’s celebration involved secondary school students through the establishment of Eco Green Clubs aimed at promoting tree planting, nurturing, and ownership among young people.

She said the project is leveraging the event to encourage the public to adopt a culture of tree planting as a means of restoring degraded lands, improving air quality, and enhancing the aesthetic appearance of communities.

Khadija Muhammad further called on women groups engaged in the project to remain dedicated to their responsibilities to ensure its long-term success.

Speaking after the distribution and flag-off ceremony, the Principal of Government Secondary School Bogoro, Mr. Michael Gambo Jaja, expressed delight over the selection of his school to partner with ACReSAL in promoting environmental sustainability. He pledged regular supervision and protection of all trees planted within the school premises.
