Parents in Bauchi State urged to prioritize girl child education for a sustainable development

Parents in Bauchi State have been urged to intensify their efforts toward educating the girl child and empowering them with entrepreneurial skills to enable them become productive members of society.

The State First Lady, Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed, made the call during the International Day of the Girl-Child celebration organized by the Bauchi State Ministry of Education in collaboration with AGILE and other development partners.

Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed emphasized that education remains the most powerful tool for empowerment, calling on parents to prioritize the education of their daughters, whom she described as the “mothers and leaders of tomorrow.”

She commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his sustained investments in the education sector, highlighting his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure, funding, and access to quality learning across the state.

The First Lady also referenced the recently held Bauchi Investment Summit, noting that it reflected the governor’s vision to boost the state’s economy.

She added that an educated generation is key to maximizing the benefits of such initiatives.

Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed appreciated the Ministry of Education, AGILE, and other partners for organizing the event, while congratulating all girls in the state on the occasion.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman, Bauchi State House of Assembly on Committee on Education, Dr. Nasiru Ahmed Ala, reaffirmed the State Assembly’s support for girl-child education under the leadership of the Speaker, Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman.

He also commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his unwavering commitment to advancing education in the state.

Delivering his remarks, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawan Mohammed Rimin Zayam, stated that the celebration was not only to honor the girl child but also to reaffirms med government’s commitment to ensuring that every girl in Bauchi has access to quality education and empowerment opportunities.

In her welcome address, the State AGILE Coordinator, Hajiya Ladi Hamma, noted that many girls still face challenges such as poverty, early marriage, and insecurity.

She, however, pointed out that through AGILE’s interventions, thousands of girls have returned to school, acquired new skills, and gained confidence to advocate for their rights.

Hajiya Ladi disclosed that the project has renovated schools, provided scholarships, and trained teachers to better support female students.

She urged parents, community leaders, teachers, and religious figures to continue standing by the girl child to ensure their full development and participation in society.

The theme for this year’s event was “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead.”
