NYSC Bogoro distributes 300 sanitary pads to nine schools

The National Youth Service Corps NYSC, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has flagged off the distribution of 300 sanitary pads to secondary schools in a bid to promote menstrual hygiene and improve the well-being of female students.

The initiative, carried out under the “Pad a Girl” programme, targeted nine schools across Bogoro LGA, with corps members leading both the distribution and sensitization exercise on personal hygiene.

During the sensitization session, the Secretary of the Medical Community Development Service CDS group, R. Nurse Adefiwitan Grace Adesewa, emphasized the importance of personal hygiene among adolescent girls, describing it as essential to their overall health and development.

She explained that proper menstrual hygiene practices, including regular washing of hands before body contact, maintaining cleanliness and dryness of the genital area, and avoiding harmful practices such as douching, are vital in preventing infections and other health complications.

Adesewa further noted that the initiative was driven by a commitment to improving the health and dignity of girls, stressing that awareness and education remain key to addressing menstrual hygiene challenges in communities.

In his remarks, the former Corps Liaison Officer, Joshua Dul Ponring, appreciated the Chairman of Bogoro LGA, Yakubu Lawi Sumi, the District Head, Mr. Nuhu Tafida, school authorities, and community members for their support in making the programme a success.
