Ningi Local Government Administration has inaugurated a high-powered taskforce committee to curb the activities of agro dealers selling adulterated farming inputs to farmers in the area.
Speaking during the inauguration in his office, the Chairman of Ningi LGA, Alhaji Nasiru Zakarai, said the move became necessary following reports of traders mixing fertilizers with sand and selling fake pesticides and herbicides, thereby reducing farm yields during harvest.
He disclosed that security reports identified certain traders who attend weekly markets in Gadar Maiwa, Nasaru, and other locations to sell fake farm products.
He described the act as inhuman and warned that anyone caught would face strict sanctions.
Alhaji Zakarai directed the taskforce to arrest and prosecute any trader found in such fraudulent practices.
He stressed that the members were chosen on merit and tasked them to deliver results.
According to him, the Taskforce committee will be chaired by the Deputy Chairman of Ningi Local Government Isah Muhammad Sama.
Other members of the committee includes the Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Sarkin Noma, Sarkin Kasuwa, representatives from the DPO’s office, DSS, Civil Defence, agro-dealers, and information Officer of the local government, Kamilu Barau Ningi.
The rest are Supervisor of Agriculture Adamu Abubakar Sadiq, while Muhammad Sadisu Abdussalam serves as Secretary.
According to report, the committee has officially commenced operations and has already made several arrests, seizing about 23 bags of fake fertilizer from suspects.
