Fire outbreak destroys property worth millions of naira in Bauchi Community

A four-year-old child has lost his life, while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed following a fire outbreak in Gadiya village, Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The incident occurred around midday on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, reportedly caused by a cooking fire that got out of control within the community.

Confirming the incident, the District Head of Gadiya, Malam Yau Umar, expressed sympathy with the victims and urged residents to be cautious when handling fire, particularly during cooking, and to ensure that fires are completely extinguished after use.

He also appealed to the State Emergency Management Agency SEMA and all tiers of government to provide urgent assistance to the affected families, noting that they lost all their belongings in the inferno.

One of the victims, Malam Muhammad Babangai, who lost his child in the incident, described the tragedy as an act of God and prayed for the repose of the child’s soul.
