COLLEGE OF EDUCATION KANGERE CALLS ON STATE ASSEMBLY TO ENACT LAW TO SCRAP UNREGISTERED NCE AWARDING INSTITUTIONS

The Management of Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of education Kangere has appealed to the state house of assembly to enact law that would impose total closure of all illegal private NCE awarding institutions across the state.

It also advised the state assembly to introduce monitoring mechanism of fishing out such illegal institutions and take appropriate measures for the educational development of the state.

The Provost of the College, Dr. Dauda Buteh Sanda made the appeal when he received in his office, state House of assembly committee on education for an oversight legislative function.

According to him, the emergence of such illegal colleges of education in the state has contributed positively, the production of half baked teachers in the state, adding that the proliferation of these illegal colleges of education is creating havoc to the Nigerian educational system.

He reiterated the commitment of the college management of complementing NCCE’s efforts of ensuing the production of well motivated teachers of world class quality with high personal and professional discipline towards expanding basic education sector.

The provost revealed that, the college is currently running 23 accredited NCE courses, 15 courses in public health and 6 Under graduates programmes in affiliation with Bayero University, Kano.

Dr. Dauda Sanda while for the release of the approved 20 million naira by the state government for the settlement of compensation to the affected persons whose lands to be use for the expansion of the college to pave way for the TETFUND intervention projects, also appealed to the state government to provide access road with the college.

Responding, the deputy chairman of the education committee who led other members of the committee to the college, Musa Wakili Nakwada, who explained that the proliferation of NCE awarding institutions in Bauchi State is alarming, promised to the state lawmakers intervention.

According to the member, establishment of some of these institutions is illegal, alleging that, no permission is pursued from the government or relevant regulatory bodies in the country and standards are disregarded in open deviance and candidates who seek admission in these institutions are exploiter because of their ignorance.

He added that, some of these institutions are using government structures, operate in an uncompleted structures, no enough personnel, auditorium, lecture theatres, hostels, libraries etc, saying this is a mockery of the entire education system.

He prayed that the government through Ministry of Education to liase with National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to come out clearly to stop the unauthorized higher institutions from existing in Bauchi State and the government should ban all illegal private higher institutions from using its structures across the state.

Musa Nakwada said the state assembly committee on education will continue discharging its legislative functions to complement government efforts of improving the state education sector.
