Bogoro Council Chairman reaffirms Commitment to ensure Access to Safe Water

‎Bogoro Local Government, through Water Sanitation, and Hygiene Department in collaboration with the ministry of Water resources, Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) other development partners, has reaffirmed its commitment to promote gender-inclusive access to safe water and sanitation as a critical driver of sustainable development and national growth.
‎‎The Executive Chairman Bogoro Local Government Council, Mr Yakubu Lawi Sumi made this known in his message to commemorate the World Water Day 2026.
‎Mr Yakubu Lawi emphasised that inclusive access to clean water and sanitation is essential to improving the health, dignity, and economic opportunities of women and girls, describing water as life.
‎He further disclosed that his administration has rehabilitated over 6,700 water schemes, providing safe drinking water to various communities across Bogoro LGA, including solar-powered boreholes and reticulation systems, have also been implemented, particularly in underserved communities as additional interventions.
‎The Chairman also noted that, through partnerships with organisations such as the World Bank and ACReSAL programmes are delivering sustainable and inclusive WASH services across 13 wards in the Local Government.
‎He added that ongoing irrigation and water infrastructure projects are boosting food security and economic empowerment, especially for women, while emphasising the need for increased female participation in decision-making and the use of sex-disaggregated data for effective planning.
‎In his remarks, the Director Water Sanitation and Hygiene Department Mr Timothy Bitrus, stressed that inadequate access to water and sanitation disproportionately affects women and girls, limiting their opportunities.
‎Mr. Bitrus reaffirmed the Department commitment to inclusive policies and stakeholder collaboration.
