The Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has successfully concluded a two-day Train-the-Trainers workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity and efficiency of officials coordinating Hajj operations in the state.
The capacity-building programme was designed to equip Hajj Affairs Officers and selected facilitators with practical and up-to-date knowledge on the proper performance of Hajj rites in line with Islamic teachings and the operational guidelines governing pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The training also focused on discipline, proper documentation, pilgrims’ welfare, and effective inter-agency collaboration.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dujuman Bauchi, Dr Imam Abdurrahman Ibrahim Idris, said the annual training had become necessary due to the changing categories of pilgrims each year, adding that differences in age, educational background, and level of exposure among intending pilgrims make continuous orientation and retraining of officials essential for effective guidance and coordination.
Dr Abdurrahman commended the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, the Police, and other security agencies for their cooperation and professionalism throughout the workshop.
Representing the Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Bauchi State on Hajj Affairs, Alhaji Shehu Wadaji, said the roles of relevant agencies remain critical in ensuring smooth screening, proper documentation, and strict compliance with international travel regulations.
Dujuman Bauchi also appreciated journalists for their consistent coverage of the programme, describing the media as strategic partners in public enlightenment and the sensitisation of intending pilgrims.
He further acknowledged the contributions of female facilitators who participated in the training, noting that their involvement would help address issues affecting women pilgrims and promote inclusiveness in Hajj operations across the state.
Certificates were presented to participating Hajj Affairs Officers, signifying their commitment to step down the training in their respective local government areas.
In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Hajj Affairs Officers, Alhaji Nuru Umar Matawalle, expressed gratitude to the Board for the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to sustain regular training programmes as part of broader efforts to ensure a smooth, transparent, and spiritually fulfilling Hajj exercise for pilgrims from Bauchi State.
