Bauchi State Honours Five Humanitarian Heroes on 2025 World Humanitarian Day

In celebration of the 2025 World Humanitarian Day, the Bauchi State Government has recognized and awarded five outstanding individuals for their selfless service to their communities.

The awards were presented by the Commissioner of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Hajara Yakubu Wanka, during a ceremony held in Bauchi.

She explained that the initiative began in 2024 after a viral social media appeal highlighted the plight of a man struggling with his business, upon investigation, the ministry discovered the man was homeless and without a family, in response, they built him a house and supported his business, marking the start of what has now become an annual tradition.

Hajiya Wanka stated that the ministry decided to expand the scope in 2025 by honouring five individuals who have voluntarily rendered outstanding humanitarian service in their communities.

She noted that the selection followed a rigorous screening process to ensure that only the most deserving individuals were recognized.

Hajiya Wanka said the awardees include; Alhaji Dandada Amadu, the ward head of Gwallaga, who emerged in first position for his contributions to child and maternal health, security, and community dialogue, He received a plaque of excellence and a cash award of ₦1,000,000. Malam Isah Ladan Bagali, who came second, was recognized for his consistent community service and was awarded ₦700,000.

Other awardees are; Babangida Gwabro Pelun Abba, placed third, has been maintaining and securing the Pelun Abba Primary Healthcare Centre since its inception, He received a cash token of ₦500,000 and award of excellence.

She said, Idris Muhammad Baba, who took the fourth position, was honored with ₦250,000 for his unique role as the Sarkin Gaisuwar Marasa Lafiya (Leader of Patient Well-Wishers) at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospitals, where he visits twice daily to greet and comfort patients, and Abdullahi Bayan NITEL, who emerged fifth, was recognized with ₦200,000 for providing free education to children in his community.

Commissioner Wanka commended the recipients, noting that their actions have not gone unnoticed.

She encouraged the public to emulate their example, emphasizing that acts of kindness and service will be rewarded, both on earth and in the hereafter.

The awardees, in their remarks, expressed gratitude to the Bauchi State Government and pledged to continue their humanitarian efforts.

They described the recognition as a pleasant surprise and a morale booster that will inspire them to do more for their communities.
