
Bauchi State Board of Internal Revenue Service BIRS, in collaboration with the Ministries of Finance and Local Governments, has convened a high-level stakeholders’ meeting aimed at harmonizing revenue collection between the state and its 20 Local Government Areas.
The meeting, held at Command Guest Inn, Bauchi, brought together key officials and representatives from across the revenue and governance sectors to deliberate on a unified framework for efficient revenue administration.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of BIRS, Alhaji Mu’azu Usman, said the aim of the meeting was to foster synergy between the state and local government agencies to improve revenue performance and block leakages.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration in driving transparency and accountability in fiscal management.
Also speaking, the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Bauchi State Ministry of Finance, Alhaji Shehu Adamu, described revenue generation and utilization as critical tools for sustainable governance and improved service delivery.
On his part, the Director Human Resources, Bauchi State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Isiyaka Tijjani, said the occasion, marked the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding that would guide the implementation of the harmonization process.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Mahmood Babamaji, commended the initiative and stressed the need to streamline revenue collection and enhance funding for state development projects.
He pledged full support and cooperation for the success of the initiative.
In his contribution, the NULGE State Chairman and Head of Administration of Tafawa Balewa LGA, Alhaji Muhammed Yunusa, lauded the foresight of BIRS and reiterated the commitment of local government administrators to the revenue harmonization effort.
Stakeholders at the meeting reviewed strategies to optimize internally generated revenue, eliminate duplication in collection, and ensure fair distribution of resources across all LGAs.
