The Bauchi State Executive Counci has approved 1.5 billion Naira as intervention for the completion of the 25 kilometre Garingami–Mormor–Madufa road in Zaki Local Government Area, following flood damage that stalled the project at 16 percent completion.
Briefing journalists after the meeting presided over by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Commissioner for Rural Development and Special Duties, Farouk Mustapha, said the road, awarded under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) at 5.6 billion Naira, was affected by flooding in November 2024.
He explained that because the World Bank and French Development Agency backed RAAMP program does not allow contract variation, the state government intervened to cover additional costs, including the haulage of construction materials from Azare, about 220 kilometres round trip, due to lack of suitable materials in the area.
Farouk Mustapha said the intervention would raise the road above flood levels to prevent future washouts and boost economic activities across the affected rural communities.
In a related development, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, announced that the Council has also approved the engagement of Solid Regent Integrated Services Limited as consultant to supervise the ongoing total rehabilitation of the Bauchi State Specialist Hospital.
He said the specialized supervision would ensure quality delivery and value for money on the project, which was earlier awarded to Architectonics Limited.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Adamu Babayo Gabarin, disclosed that also the Council considered a proposal to transform the Bauchi State Sports Council into a Sports Commission to align with the federal structure and strengthen participation in the sports economy.
