The Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, has facilitated the establishment of a 30-kilowatt solar power sub-station for Kujara community in Ningi Local Government Area of the state.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Speaker, Mukhtar Garba Kobi said the project was secured through the Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Authority, following series of consultations initiated by the Speaker to address persistent electricity challenges in his constituency.
He revealed that, the intervention is also aimed at supporting economic growth and reducing social challenges associated with poor lighting at night in the community.
According to him, the proposed solar sub-station is expected to improve power availability, boost local economic activities and enhance security in the area through improved nighttime illumination.
Mukhtar Garba explained that, Maskh Nigeria Limited, was been engaged to execute the project, which was described as part of broader efforts by the Speaker to promote access to alternative energy sources across communities in Ningi Local Government Area.
Responding, community of Kujara have welcomed the project, expressing appreciation for the intervention and pledging to safeguard the facility against vandalism.
They said, they have over the years, grappled with inadequate power supply, a situation that has reportedly led to the shutdown of several small and medium-scale businesses dependent on electricity.
