The Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, has joined principal officers, members, and staff of the Assembly in a workshop on the proposed Harmonized Taxes and Levies Bill, 2026.
The workshop, organized by the Bauchi State Internal Revenue Service, focuses on the New Tax Law 2025 and is themed: “Legislative Engagement on Harmonized Taxes and Levies Bill, 2026 for Members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.”
The training held n Jos, the Plateau State Capital, is aimed at equipping lawmakers with in-depth knowledge of the proposed legislation to enable thorough deliberation when it is presented before the Assembly.
In his welcome address, the Speaker expressed appreciation to the Bauchi State Internal Revenue Service for organizing the workshop, noting that the bill under consideration is both sensitive and significant to the state’s development.
He stated that the proposed law is expected to boost government revenue and enhance the provision of basic amenities to communities across the state.
Dr. Abubakar Suleiman urged the lawmakers to actively participate in the sessions by contributing meaningful insights, emphasizing the need to apply the knowledge and experience gained in handling the bill effectively during legislative proceedings.
He also expressed optimism for productive deliberations, stressing that the outcome of the workshop would ultimately benefit the people of Bauchi State and the country at large.
According to him, the workshop is seen as a strategic step toward strengthening legislative capacity, as it provides lawmakers with a clear understanding of the key provisions, opportunities, and implications of the Harmonized Taxes and Levies Bill, 2026.
The active participation of the members, according to the workshop resource persons, reflects their commitment to enact laws that will positively impact their constituents.
