Bauchi State has dispatched over 110 athletes to compete at the third National Para Athletic Games holding from March 26 to April 3 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The contingents will participate in 10 events, including para-athletics, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, judo, table tennis, canoeing and swimming, as the state seeks to improve on its previous performance.
In his farewell address, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Babayo Adamu Gabarin, represented by the overseeing Permanent Secretary, Abdullahi Ibrahim, urged the athletes to uphold discipline and serve as worthy ambassadors of the state.
He said the government had made adequate provisions for the athletes’ welfare and allowances, adding that gold medalists would be recommended for employment opportunities as part of efforts to reward excellence.
Bauchi State had recorded over 13 medals at the last edition of the games, which is widely regarded as a platform for promoting inclusive sports and nurturing talents for international competitions.
