Bauchi Emerges Major Beneficiary of 64 Million Dollar Global Affairs Canada Intervention Fund

The Emir of Darazo, Alhaji Ibrahim Bababa, has commended Global Affairs Canada (GAC) for selecting Darazo Local Government Area as one of the key zones for community-initiated projects implemented through United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The monarch gave the commendation while receiving a delegation from the GAC High Commission team and UNICEF at his palace during a monitoring visit to assess the impact of the Mama2Mama and Fathers for Good Health groups since their inception in the LGA.

Alhaji Ibrahim Bababa noted that UNICEF has been working tirelessly with the Bauchi State Government to improve the health, nutrition, and education of women and children across the state.

He described Darazo as one of the major beneficiaries of the interventions and urged GAC and UNICEF to sustain their support for community-driven development programmes in the emirate, adding that the initiative, which began in Konkiyel,and is already yielding positive results towards transforming the lifestyles of residents.

The Emir also pledged the full commitment and cooperation of traditional leaders in ensuring the successful implementation of all ongoing and future projects.

Speaking during the visit, the Head of Development Cooperation at the Global Affairs Canada High Commission in Abuja, Mr. Arash Irantalah, reaffirmed the Canadian Government’s commitment to supporting poverty reduction, healthcare, human development, adolescent health, and climate change mitigation initiatives in Nigeria.

He acknowledged the strong support GAC has received from the Bauchi State Government, traditional institutions, and the people of the state, describing Bauchi as a strategic gateway to Nigeria’s North-East region.

Mr. Irantalah disclosed that out of six GAC-funded interventions in Nigeria valued at 64 million dollars, four are currently being implemented in Bauchi State.

He called for continued collaboration from traditional leaders, government authorities, and communities in supporting GAC’s partners, including UNICEF, MEDA, and Plan International.

Earlier, UNICEF’s Chief of Field Office in Bauchi, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, said the delegation visited the Emir to seek his blessings for the successful conduct of the monitoring exercise in Darazo.
