Bauchi Assembly passes Chieftaincy Bill for Second Reading

Bauchi State House of Assembly has passed for second reading, a bill seeking to establish the Bauchi State Chieftaincy Law and for other related matters.

The resolution was made during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Dr. Abubakar Y. Suleiman

Under the second schedule of the draft bill, a total of thirteen (13) new emirates have been proposed.

The proposed emirates include Burra, Ari, and Warji Emirates in Ningi Local Government Area; Dambam Emirate in Dambam Local Government; Duguri Emirate in Alkaleri Local Government; and Toro, Jama’a, and Lame Emirates from Toro Local Government Area.

Others are Darazo Emirate in Darazo Local Government, Gamawa Emirate in Gamawa Local Government, Bununu and Lere Emirates in Tafawa Balewa Local Government, Giade Emirate in Giade Local Government, as well as the Sayawa Chiefdom with its headquarters at Mhrim/Namchi.

Meanwhile, the Assembly also received a list containing the names of 116 new districts proposed to be created across various local government areas of the state.

In his ruling, Speaker Abubakar Y. Suleiman referred the bill to the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for further legislative consideration and directed the committee to report back to the House in two weeks for onward passage.

The House thereafter adjourned sitting to Tuesday, 16th October 2025.
