Bauchi State House of Assembly has continued its rigorous scrutiny of the 2025 budget proposals of local government councils, with Misau Local Government appearing before the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation.
The Committee, chaired by Hon.
Muhammad Wanzam, received the Chairman of Misau Local Government, Hon. Salisu Hussaini Hardawa, who presented a proposed budget estimate of over N2 billion for the 2025 fiscal year. The presentation forms part of the Assembly’s constitutional oversight to ensure prudent planning and alignment with the developmental needs of the people.
In his remarks, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Muhammad Wanzam, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to transparency, accountability and people-oriented budgeting at the grassroots level.
He emphasized that the screening exercise is not merely procedural but designed to ensure that public funds are strategically allocated to critical sectors that directly impact citizens. He assured that the Committee would thoroughly review the proposal to guarantee value for money and sustainable development across local government areas.
Earlier in his presentation, Alhaji. Salisu Hussaini Hardawa expressed gratitude to Allah for the opportunity to defend the council’s 2025 budget before the lawmakers. He noted that all local government chairmen had been appearing before the Committee since Monday, with Misau’s turn coming up accordingly.
The Chairman disclosed that the proposed budget, valued at approximately N2 billion and above, covers salary obligations and other essential expenditures. He expressed optimism that the council would successfully implement the outlined programmes if approved.
According to him, the budget prioritizes three to four key sectors, notably education, healthcare and social welfare services, describing education as the foundation of life, stressing that societal growth and leadership development are rooted in sound learning systems.
On healthcare service delivery, Alhaji Hardawa stated that no meaningful development can occur without a healthy population, hence the council’s strong focus on the sector. He revealed that Misau Local Government has recorded remarkable achievements in healthcare delivery, earning recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO) as well as BACATMA under the health authority. He explained that such collaborations are aimed at combating modern health challenges and improving service delivery for residents.
The Chairman further highlighted ongoing infrastructural interventions, particularly in rural electrification. He noted that several communities previously without electricity are now connected through the council’s efforts. He cited Gwaram as an example, where recent vandalism of electrical cables caused temporary outages, but efforts are underway to restore supply.
He also pointed to visible development projects including the construction of shops at Kaura Plaza, market expansions, culverts and other infrastructural works designed to stimulate economic growth within the local government.
The legislator reaffirmed that improving the living standards of the people remains a core responsibility of his administration and expressed hope that Allah would grant the council the strength and resources to successfully implement all proposed projects.
The screening exercise continues as the State Assembly intensifies efforts to ensure effective grassroots governance and resolute to adequate legislative representation across Bauchi State.
