Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport has pledged to ensure standard road construction by increasing oversight, implementation, new policies and committing to infrastructure improvements.
The Chairman of the committee, Engineer Garba Adamu Kawu made the pledge when he led other members of the committee to inspect the ongoing road construction in Dass, Tafawa-Balewa, Bogoro, Toro and Bauchi Local Government Areas.
He said the inspection visit was geared to conduct comprehensive assessments of road projects and their status with a mandate to report back findings to the state assembly for legislative consideration.
Engineer Adamu Kawu added that the move will complement state government commitment to building durable and quality roads that will support economic growth and be sustainable for future generations.
The Chairman of the committee called for improved supervision of construction firms to ensure quality, safety and timely project completion.
He noted that, effective supervision will help ensure adherence to standards, keeps projects on schedule, verifies that, contractors meet legal requirements and provide a point of contact to report as well as well as address any construction irregularities.
Engineer Adamu Kawu further commended state government efforts for new road construction and rehabilitation projects, highlighting improved connectivity, reduced travel times, and economic benefits.
He appealed to citizens to take ownership of the projects by protecting them from vandalism, noting that while the government provides infrastructure, it is the responsibility of the people to ensure sustainability.
In all the road project sites visited by the committee, the representatives of the construction firms, promised to complete the works within the stipulated time and in accordance with specifications.
