Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts has embarked on oversight responsibilities for Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking when he led members of the committee to Toro and Bauchi Local Government Councils, the Chairman of Public Accounts committee Alhaji Mubarak Haruna said the visit is geared to scrutinize the council’s finances and ensuring compliance with regulations.
According to him, the oversight is part of the committee’s broader function to promote transparency and accountability in public spending at the local government level.
Mubarak Haruna revealed that the committee is constitutionally mandated to oversee the financial activities of various government entities, including LGAs.
Receiving the committee members in his office, the Chairman of Toro Local Government Council Pharmacist Ibrahim Abubakar Dembo, restated his administration’s resolve to strengthen collaboration with the State House of Assembly Committee on public account.
He described the visit as timely and essential and commended the committee’s oversight responsibilities, noting that sustained partnership with the legislature is vital to achieving key milestones in the state’s financial system.
On his part, the Chairman of Bauchi Local Government Alhaji Mahmood Abubakar Babamaji assured his unwavering support and commitment to improving financial management.
He added that, the Lawmakers oversight is a key mechanism for promoting transparency and accountability in government.
