Bauchi First Lady Inaugurates Bauchi State Mental Health Steering Committee and Roll out Mental Health Helpline

Members of the State Mental Health Steering Committee have been charged to champion mental health intervention as a collective responsibility.

The State First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed gave the charge at the official inauguration of the committee in Bauchi.

Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed emphasised that the need for a mental health intervention within Health facilities and communities.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to have a fully functional, result oriented, affordable, accessible and inclusive health services that focuses on the most disadvantaged and the vulnerable population.

Represented by the overseeing Permanent Secretary ministry of Women Affairs, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi assure of her commitment to the success of the Project in the State.

In his remarks, the State commissioner of Health, Dr Sambo Umar explained government will continue to give priority to the Health sector to improve productivity.

The commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Ali Babayo thanked Plan International for its commitment to improving mental health in the State.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary State Prima Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed assure to justify the confidence reposed in the team.

In his contribution the Senior project Officer Plan International Global Affairs Canada, Malam Nasiru Musa Muhammad explained that the Project aims to improve the welfare of Women especially Girls and hoped that the partnership will greatly impact the people of Bauchi State.

Contributing to the discourse on behalf of Civil Society Organisations in the State, Mr Jinjiri Garba described the event as a step in the right direction.
He assured of their readiness to support the Project to enable it succeed.
